G∆GE Presents - DEHASSE Interview + Mix + New Single Preview

Recently I got the opportunity to do an e-mail correspondence with the new hot European DJ/Producer DEHASSE! Fresh from producing remixes of the London 2012 Olympic Games Theme Tune - Public Enemy "Harder Than You Think" - DEHASSE has completed a string of remixes for the likes of Randy Jackson's Universal record label Dream Merchant 21 and top US label Interscope. DEHASSE unleashes a solid club stormer ready to hit the summer dance floors where it hurts. He recently appeared as DJ Dalis first international artist on Groove Therapy Sessions and I was lucky enough to be featured on the same radio cast. The interview below will give you a small glimpse into the man behind the decks. As well as the aforementioned mix for Groove Therapy Sessions on www.TechnoHouse.fm. You can also check out his new single Sick In The Octave out on Beatport!

Who brought you into the dance music scene and when?
I’ve always been fan of electronic music and dance music since a very early age. I grew up in Central Europe listening to pioneer electronic bands such as Kraftwerk. My family also had a huge vinyl collection which included all styles of music... from 80's new romantic to Chicago House to 70's soul and funk, rare groove and disco. Contemporary up tempo danceable music was always on the agenda.

When did you start producing electronic music?

I’ve been producing for many years and have considerable success working with all kinds of artists.. but I wanted to make a new project so here we are ;)

Where did you come up w the name DEHASSE?

It’s my family name from my mothers side.. My mother was half German/ Belgium, so premium European baby!

Who are your biggest influences?
So many to mention... I already mentioned Kraftwerk, but honestly I just always enjoyed music which was exciting and fresh. A lot of early street soul and early Electro from New York... honestly far to many influences to mention.

Who would you like to work with and why?
Well I guess Nile Rodgers is one of my main Heroes and I understand he's putting a new project together right now. He is one of the music world's wonders and has written so many good songs, it just goes on...
Who would you like to ideally see remix one of your tracks?
Right now I'm a big fan of Federico Scavo on a chunky house tip. Nari and Milani are also killing it right now on the big room EDM sound.

Who do you believe is the next up and coming producer or DJ that doesn't get mentioned enough or at all?
Probably the 2 guys i mentioned above .

What do you think about the current state of dance music?
Very healthy, but it depends from which direction you are looking. Personally I'm really enjoying making music right now and loving the huge events in the US and so on... but I guess if you’re a record label it must be pretty tough.

What has changed in the dance music scene since (insert date of when you started producing) besides the technology?
Beside the technology and of course advancement of sounds and so on, pretty much the same principles apply. The whole EDM thing has blown a bit of a hole in arrangements, but the same rules pretty much apply... MAKE PEOPLE DANCE AND FLY!

What platform do you use to produce?
Ableton to sketch ideas, as it’s super quick to get a vibe going, then I transfer into logic for mixing and final production.

What platform do you use to play out on? IE CDJ's (if cdj's, cd's or usb or serato?), controller?
CDJS always. I burn separate CDs for each song and mix live without computers. I don't have an issue with people using a laptop to DJ, but honestly I like to be hands on myself and mixing comes very naturally to me. I may go to a laptop in the future... who knows? But I like to be in control in a club. I've seen horrendous incidents with people using laptops in clubs and events!

What’s your favorite piece of production equipment you have?
Well I guess nostalgically it would have to be the vintage outboards Juno and Virus, although, they are not often used these days. My favorite program for sounds currently is Massive/NI, however "Sylenth" is great for polyphony soft synths... it has a really nice saturation feature into the main filter and with its easy use oscillators it allows you to design better chord sounds. I always like to use Wave plug-ins for that clear crisp sound and the WOW filter from "Sugarbytes" gives some really interesting sounds.

Where was your favorite place to play and why?
Ibiza was always my favorite place but I have done some amazing shows in the USA recently.

Whats the craziest thing you've seen while playing out?
God knows …   so many things ..

What was the craziest thing you've seen on someones rider? Whats the craziest thing on your rider?
I've seen one artist who would only have red m&ms in his dressing room … another who would asks for vintage champagne and then takes it home .. I'm quite simple but my manager always like to ask for the finest port and wine ;)

Lastly if you could give young producers and DJ's one piece of advice what would that be?
Do what you feel is right and follow your gut feeling and don't be moulded ..

Thank you we appreciate the time you've taken to sit down with us at ElectroKill Media!

[TRAP/BASS] How to use an 808 + Drake - Over (Motion & Manipulation's Pump Up Bootleg)

When I spoke with Mr. Boyd (Motion & Manipulation) about his new bootleg I wasn't convinced at first when he told me it was a remix of Drake's "Over", I thought the wave of remixes/bootlegs/mashups of this song was ...over (haha!). However, great surprise, this is straight up fire. The instrumental is huge, the vocal is not too dominant and leaves more space to the dopeness of the 808s. This is just sitting there waiting for a sick MC to throw some bars on it! Motion & Manipulation manipulates the 808s like a bo$$, get this free download now and show some social media love.

Something very interesting came with the "Over" bootleg, the "Trap Beat Intro" or "How to use an 808", this might teach some kidz a trick or two ;) or anyone who's interested to know what the structure of Trap music looks like!

[DnB] DIESELBOY – BEYOND THE BLACK BASSLINE

Nobody in the EDM game drops insane mixes like Dieselboy! We get only one every few years though but when it happens, its huge! I'm very picky on my Drum and Bass but somehow, Dieselboy always kills it. The new one was posted today, get ready for a journey into the dark reaches of subsonic space.

83 minutes. 74 tracks. The full blown spectrum of current-state drum and bass.

“Dieselboy presents the ESSENTIAL upgrade to your current bass music listening program. Highly polished, deeply textured and dramatic as fuck – this mix runs it from deep, hot and heavy to uplifting, energetic and euphoric. Designed to be played as LOUD as you can handle it. From the intro to the outro, it’s one hell of a ride.”

[TRANCE] Interview with SERI

You may have heard her on Markus Schulz latest album Scream and even more lately on her collaboration with 4 Strings : Ready To Fall. Powerful vocals and dreamy voice, I had the chance to ask Seri a couple of questions so we can dive into her world.

EK : First of all, I got to ask : What has drawn you to Electronic Dance Music more than any other genre?

SERI : I was doing demos to start....all types of demos, but it wasn't until I sang on a dance track ("Never Forget You", that went to #5 on Billboard) that caught my attention and brought me to the EDM world. The genre has wonderful fans and audience. It's a really high energy genre compared to any other kind of music. It's great!

EK : Great ! You started off your career being known as LALA and have since gone by SERI; How did the name change come about?

SERI : LALA is a nickname given to me at birth. However, my grandfather called me SERI. I always related to my grandfather the most in my family and he strongly believed in my talent. Therefore, I changed my name to SERI in honor and remembrance of him. It's a much stronger name for me than LALA.

EK : It sure has a strong meaning to you. Now, what song made you realize that you wanted to be a vocalist?‬

SERI : Well I knew I wanted to be a star when I was 4 years old and I saw Madonna's "Like a Prayer" video on TV. I was mesmerized. But I didn't realize I love singing and that I really had a voice until I started mimicking Mariah Carey's "Emotion" and then of course, Whitney's "Body Guard" album was epic for me!

EK : In the same way, who are your influences, both vocally and lyrically speaking?

SERI : I love Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey - the divas of voice! Lyrically influenced (as well as my artist role model) would be Madonna. She always writes lyrics from her heart, from the truth she knows, and from her real life experience. I admire that.

EK :The creative process has its ups and downs-- what would you say are the easiest and hardest parts of your craft?

SERI : Performing on stage is really the cream of the job - the reward! The hardest part is getting yourself out there, getting people to be aware of your music, and who you are. Although I am used to working hard, there are forever challenges in the industry; therefore, the hard work is continuous and does not let up. Regardless, I love recording, writing, and performing!

EK : How would you describe your style as vocalist, what would you say distinguishes your music from other vocalists in EDM?‬

‪SERI : Well my manager calls me the Enya of EDM ..lol..which is kinda true. I love harmonies...a wall of vocals. It's powerful, and it evokes great emotions. I think vocals in music these days (in all genres) are very different now than it was...there is less harmonies, less adlibs, less complex vocal phrasing. I tend to like the richness of harmonies. ‬

EK : As a singer and as a listener, what do you like to hear in a vocal track?‬

SERI : An outstanding voice! Honest and poetic lyrics with imagery. Emotion from the vocalist. Harmonies. Dynamics in the song and voice.

EK : For you, which place in the world is most inspiring?

SERI : New York City inspires me for action - for the hustle - for the drive - for the excitement and intensity of life. But Vancouver, Canada (where I was raised) inspires me spiritually. The beauty of nature there is supernatural. Absolutely stunning.

EK : ‪If you could perform at any non-conventional venue on Earth, where would it be?‬

SERI : I actually have performed in many non-conventional venues already..lol..but I think somewhere in the remote wilderness would be really cool...on a mountain top, on the moon, on ocean floors under water :)

‪EK : What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any unusual hobbies?‬

SERI : I took up cooking lately which is very therapeutic. I love to exercise. I am also learning how to knit!

‪EK : Nice, you should knit the Electrokill Media logo for us :p

EK : What's next for 2013?‬

SERI : I have lots more releases coming up as well as live performances. Keep your ear out for SERI and some great songs to come!!! :)

Thanks for taking time to answer our questions SERI.
Be sure to stay tuned to SERI. Also make sure to show her some love by following/liking her

[ELECTRO/HOUSE] Bingo Players - Buzz Cut (Matt Prey Bootleg)

After I saw the original video teaser of Bingo Players new song "Buzz Cut" (with the sublime [to say the least] Melanie Iglesias) I knew that this track would be one of the biggest songs of the Festival season. It has every element to become a summer anthem and already more than 350 000 views in 2 days on youtube. We couldn't wait 3 more days before the release date so we jumped on the opportunity and our Matt Prey did an extended bootleg just for you guys...and for free download! We also did a new music video for the track, we took the original concept but multiplied the hot girls by 1000. Enjoy!

[TRAP/BASS #26] Dada Life, Moby, Gent & Jawns, Afrojack, Daft Punk, Terravita, Major Lazer, TYR, Team Bayside High, Dazed Dog, Wild Belle, La Roux, Kid Womp, Syrup and Hush, Candyland, Firebeatz, Trill Ferrell

You want the best Trap & Bass songs for your Saturday night? What am I saying, of course you do! This feature is a bit different then the other "Trap/Bass" episodes, I took a bit more time to gather this compilation (every single song is fire!) and most of the artists in this post are known or somewhat known others would say, not that many new comers in this one. Most of it is straight up Trapsyle, if you prefer your trap musik a bit more gangsta/hip hop, check out yesterday's massive Hip Hop/Trap post featuring Busta Rhymes, Young Jeezy, Snoop Dogg, Macklemore, NERD, Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Ace Hood, Big K.R.I.T. & many more! Now that's what I call "Running the trap"! Last minute USB stick filling for my DJs, make sure to drop all that trill music on there!

Daft Punk - Get Lucky (Only the Best Remixes)

To make your life easier, we like to create special features like this one so you don't have to scout the whole interwebz to find the best remixes of the biggest tracks on the EDM scene at the moment. We do it all for you! This time its by far the hottest track of 2013 so far, you already know what it is, Daft Punk's already legendary song "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell & Nile Rodgers. Most of the remixes/bootlegs are House or Indie Dance / Nu Disco (like the original) but you will find some Drum and Bass, Trap & Electro as well. They are all for free download except TC's massive Drum and Bass fix. This post will be updated with new remixes, you know the drill, if you find one that we forgot, post it in the comment section.

You can find a download link to the original version here [Daft Punk - Get Lucky] and all the best Trap remixes here [Daft Punk Trap Remixes]
