Maarten Vorwerk aka The man behind Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, Van Hage, Yves V & many more!

While I was composing my previous article about some big names in the music industry using young producers' bootlegs of their songs as "inspiration" to create a new remix which is essentially the same and publish it (which I would like to invite you to read if you didn't already), I stumbled upon very interesting information about a "famous" ghostproducer from the Netherlands.

Do you know the name Maarten Vorwerk? Probably not, he is the guy in the studio producing the latest house music songs you hear on the radio or the ones your favorite DJ plays while you think the guy jumping up and down on stage is the one that created it. Some artists like Benny Benassi, don't hide the fact that his brother/cousin is the one producing and he is the "dj", however, others don't want people to know they hire people to produce for them, David Guetta for example. Just look at his latest album "Nothing But the Beat" and look at how many writers are in the credits. Joachim Garraud also admitted in an interview with Ready2Move.be that he was behind some of David Guetta's productions and he said: "David is not a musician, [he] is not a technician, so he comes over with ideas, ideas samples, textures and sounds, etc., after they performs together, and it is true that it is I who am behind the machines, because they are my machines and my studio." Enough Guetta, back to our hero "Maarten Vorwerk".

[Let's make something clear right away, I never say/said explicitly "Maarten Vorwerk" ghostproduced this or this track, he might have been "helping" or "collaborating" with the artists, however I do believe that he is the man behind these titles whether or not it is advertised that way but this is my opinion and the result of the digging I've done on the interwebz]

We asked Maarten for an interview with us and (no surprise there!) he said no :'(

Here's what he is behind (at least what I found):

He is in the credits as a composer for
Swedish House Mafia's album "Until Now" [source]
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike - Wakanda [Source] [Extra Source]
Sandro Silva & Quintino - Epic [Source]
Quintino - We Gonna Rock [Source]
Yves V, Felguk - WOW (Original Mix)[Source]
Yves V - Arkadia (Original Mix) [Source]
Jacob Van Hage & Oliver Heldens - Thumper (Original Mix) [Source]
Jacob van Hage ‎– Spotfire Written-By, Composed By – M. Vorwerk [Source]
Ruthless - Gers [Source]

Even Cloud9 mentions Maarten as being one of their ghostproducers:
"Our ghost producer Maarten Vorwerk was involved in Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s ‘Wakanda’, which premiered during the final tour from Swedish House Mafia in 2012." [Source] and his "job" on his twitter account clearly says "Ghost Producer. Professor in Gadgets. Shrimp & Vodka Lover". Need more facts/proof?

I would like to invite you to follow Maarten on Twitter to stay up to date with his (ghost)productions https://twitter.com/MaartenVorwerk

You want to know more about ghostproducing?

"A TranceAddict.com forum post attempted to list the artists who do this. The most notable, out of those listed include Tiesto, Dave Dresden of Gabriel & Dresden, Paul Oakenfold (who, apparently, can’t even write a melody), Sasha, and Paul Van Dyk. But because ghost producing hasn’t been confirmed for any of these performers, the statements don’t go beyond rumors." -crossfdr.com

Here's another interesting article on Mixmag

Thanks for reading! I would be pleased to have your feedback and opinions about this subject, either in the comments under this post or on our facebook page.

  4. Good article! People need to know this!! I commented about him on a upcoming Quintino release and Quintino responded negatively. Now I'm pretty sure he's guilty of getting his tracks ghost produced by Vorwerk. Real fans will find out!

  7. What to think of Armin van Buuren? Nobody ever dares to mention him, but check on the credits of his releases! Armin is NOT a good producer on it's own.

  8. Sandro Silva commented on Laidback Lukes' forum, that there wasn't any Ghostproducers included in the making of 'Epic'

  11. Why doesn't he just take credit of the tracks he did in the 1st place?

  12. These artists are professionals. Do you really think that all musicians write their own music ?! Even michael jackson had a big production team around him to create and find the best songs for him. A bedroom dj do everything alone, but these people are not bedrom djs/producers ! They create music with people to get influenced and inspired.

  13. ... Realy. This mr vorwerk isn't a real ghostproducer. Just a guy who found a way to get attention

  14. @KEsadu...Michael Jackson is a singer who actually does wayyy more than most singers do today. He wrote a lot of his songs by himself and co wrote and co produced with Quincy Jones. I think if a DJ/producer wants to collaborate then do it, but having a ghost producer do everything is sort of a slap to all up and coming bedroom producers. Singers have a huge production team cuz its more about the singer, but if you ARE the producer/main focus why do you need an army to do it

  15. To the one who made the post. Maybe you should get your facts right. He didn't produce any of these tracks. He only got creditsfor the Music/Lyrics parts of the song. You want some links?

  20. Everything is like a pyramid, or an iceberg, or whatever. The ones at the top are supported by a big complex structure. Like in movies we perceive the lead actor as "the responsible for the movie". It's a "Sean Connery movie", it's an "Angelina Jolie movie". DJ's that make massive money from touring would be "wasting their time" being for too long in the studio. Others may be great producers but lack social skills (being on stage, giving out interviews). But DJ'ing and producing are almost two completely different worlds. Most DJ are idiots, most DJ's can't produce (generally speaking, not about famous DJ's). Anyone can be a DJ, you just go up there with a pre-mixed set (by someone else) and touch knobs randomly and jump around, that's EXACTLY the task of a DJ. And that's why people like Paris HIlton, Sasha Grey, or any "tv personality" can be a guest DJ. But this thing about Tiesto, Oakenfold and PVD not knowing how to produce is just retarded conspiracy theory. And David Guetta is a producer, just not as good or crative as he "seems to be" to pop audiences. Making dance tracks is EASY, and anyone who pays attention closely can make "decent" tracks with todays technology. The difficult part is making good music, is making memorable tracks, hit tracks. Listen to Steve Angello's solo tracks and to Axwell solo tracks and guess who is really responsible for the SHM soundstyle. Angello's productions are weak, but he is better at marketing and promotion (and jumping on stage) and being a "celebrity" (and hence his tv appearences and feuds with Paris Hilton...). But even those who lack the ability to create great tracks, have the ability to recognize the elements that make the hit tracks, and that's why David Guetta is the number one DJ lately, not because of tech skills, not because of musical virtuosity, but because of his knowledge on what it takes to be a great track.

  21. i don't know if is a real ghost producer, but i never watch a "studio video" of this man
making music or something like that, so i think that man is a little producer with lot of fantasy

    ReplyDelete
  22. So if DJ does not compose.. and does not djset live (like David Guetta and many more).. what do they do ??

    ReplyDelete
  23. NEVER SEND DEMOS TO BIG DJS AND LABELS.. THEY COPY YOU!
I KNOW IT BECAUSE I WORKED FOR EMI IN PARIS FOR 6 MONTHS AND I LEARNED SO MUCH THINGS...

  26. the only original producers are hardwell and avicii.. and hardwells label is the best and most proffessional label today. and plus hardwell admits he has been ghost producing for other djs. but lesser known ones. and he litterally hates to ghost produce for BIG NAMES. and BIG NAMES that uses ghost producers are lying to their fans by saying its producer by themself..... Iam a really big hardwell fan .

    ReplyDelete
  27. this is the reason why hardwell is no.1 . he is the only one with original productions and the only producer that is not using ghost producer.......!

  28. John Falk, Maarten is also in the credits of Revealed 4...

    ReplyDelete
  29. yes i know, but its becuse that he was credited as producer for 2 tracks on revealed volume 4. that wasent hardwells own songs. and the rest is made my hardwell.

  30. Maarten does a lot of productions. Usually only part of a track or in collaboration with artists, and sometimes a whole track. It is no secret, you can look it all up if you know where to find the information.
However, somehow the internet got this crazy idea that he creates every single beatport top 10 hit. Trust me, you're wrong and give him too much credit.
