If you think that ghostproducing is bad for the music industry (MUST READ --> Marteen Vorwerk part1 & part 2), there’s another popular trend in EDM and it’s called "straight up stealing from other music producers" (read this article we posted last summer on the topic). Many have done it (most of them deny it obviously) and many are still doing it!
After Juke Ellington accused of stealing many tracks, Katy Perry ripping off Dillon Francis and Sara Bareilles on the track "ROAR", Showtek accusing Flosstradamus of sample theft, Will i Am stealing Mat Zo and Arty, Wildstylez adding a hardstyle drop to deadmau5's “Some Chords” and attempting to sell it as his own track, “Straightforward.", this unfortunately seems to be a pretty common thing on the EDM scene.
Now Hardwell's protege Dyro is accused of ripping off Pegboard Nerds‘ remix of Skrillex & Damian Marley‘s track Make It Bun Dem on his track "Black Smoke". Listen to the both tracks below and find the similarities in the drops:

He is also accused of ripping off Deadmau5′s classic “Ghosts N Stuff” on his new single “Calling Out”!
Forward "Calling Out" to 1:03 and “Ghosts N Stuff” to 2:38 and compare the two songs below:
Do you think people should keep supporting artists like Dyro ? What can be done to prevent situations like this?
I deny this. Yes there are some pretty fuckin huge similarities but Dyro is one of the most respected producer with ultimate production quality.. And ''Black Smoke'' is just part 2 of his tune ''Leprechauns and Unicorns''.. Oh well, that's just my opinion
ReplyDeleteArtists don't own sounds. They own multiple melodies coming together in full pieces. Not synths and one shot samples. Yes these songs aren't very innovative and share similar SOUNDS, but they are not stealing as you have accused him of doing. Think if the Beetles tried to copyright the sounds of a guitar pluck because it was a sound they used, everyone would be downright furious and appalled. Exactly the same thing is going on here. I'm sure Dyro was inspired by these tracks, and he could have been more innovative, but music is art and this is his rendition of those sounds when he puts them together. Beautiful work Dyro, your music is always great in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteFucking bullshit. Dyro straight up copied the chord structure. He can't come up with original chords on his own? He is another layer of douche in the Hardwell sandwhich. He isn't even close to being on par with Deadmau5. No shame. In today's world you can get away with that - no respect ..and no creativity.
